Cement tiles

Cement tiles, or cement mosaic panels, are not only special in their appearance, but also in the way they are laid.

They are made through a partially manual process, and can vary in thickness. In addition, they are laid almost seamlessly in order to achieve the desired appearance of an even surface. This immediately protects the edges of the individual panels and the patterning is even better if it is not interrupted by wide joints.

A major difference from ceramic coverings is the surface: cement tiles are open-pored, and should be treated or impregnated after they have been laid. Cement tiles and floor slabs must be dry and have reached their normal moisture level before they are laid, in order to rule out subsequent stress cracks or buckling of the covering. Due to the variety of materials available on the market, it is advisable to obtain installation recommendations from the respective manufacturer.

We recommend gluing with fast-reactive tile adhesives to reduce the risk of discolouration and deformation. It is recommended that cement tiles/concrete slabs are grouted with trass cement and fine quartz sand in a mixing ratio of approx. 2:1 in order to retain the original appearance to as great an extent as possible. The use of pre-coloured jointing compounds can also lead to unwanted discolouration. We therefore recommend creating a test area. In addition, we do not recommend using acidic cleaners to clean the floor covering, as these attack the alkaline cementitious surface.
