Terrace construction with the thin-bed method

In order to be able to ensure long-term enjoyment of a new terrace covering, precise planning of the preparatory work before laying is of enormous importance. Gradient, waterproofing, drainage and format size are just some of the things to be taken into consideration. Standards stipulate that light-coloured tiles with a maximum size of 30 x 30 cm are used. An incline of at least 2% is required. Terraces that are in contact with the ground must be protected with capillary barrier measures, since humic acid can attack construction materials. Plane sizes should be limited to a ratio of 1:3, with a maximum of 25 m2. A bedding of at least 90% is required outdoors (buttering-floating technique). In addition, a joint width of at least 3 mm must be maintained, with elastic joints at least 5 mm. Good embedding is achieved with the Flex adhesive mortar Trass KTF 55. Calcite efflorescence can be largely avoided with this product.
