Natural stone

Natural stones differ in appearance and in their physical properties such as compressive strength, water absorption, bulk density and flexural strength. In addition, depending on the mineral type and mineral structure, they are prone to deformation, discoloration and even vary in terms of adhesion qualities. Appropriate tests of the natural stone material to be laid are therefore critically recommended before starting the laying work. Natural stones are divided into 3 groups: igneous (solidified rocks), sedimentary (layered rocks), metamorphic (transformed rocks). The use of highly polymer-modified, fast-setting adhesive mortar with crystalline water binding is recommended for laying.

We recommend:

Laying in using the buttering-floating technique is recommended in order to prevent the adhesive strips from showing through.

Impregnation makes sense for highly absorbent natural stones. This avoids unwanted contamination or discolouration.

Apply caution when using acid-crosslinking silicones (sanitary silicones): These can lead to grease marks, in contrast to neutral-crosslinking products such as natural stone silicone SIL 50 .

If natural stone is laid outdoors, on terraces or balconies, we recommend laying it in a system with drainage mortar and/or drainage mat to ensure reliable water drainage.
